Aaron Nagiel
About
Aaron Nagiel, MD, PhD, is a pediatric vitreoretinal surgeon at the Vision Center at Children's Hospital Los Angeles, where he focuses on retinal and vitreous disorders in children and adolescents. His clinical work spans medical and surgical management of retinal diseases, retinopathy of prematurity, retinal detachment, ocular trauma, genetic eye diseases, and gene therapy surgery. He also directs a translational research program developing new therapeutic approaches for pediatric retinal disease. He holds an academic appointment as Assistant Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology at the Keck School of Medicine of USC and is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. His prior hospital affiliations include Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and the Stein Eye Institute at UCLA.
Dr. Nagiel has authored more than 80 peer-reviewed publications appearing in journals including JAMA Ophthalmology, Ophthalmology, the American Journal of Ophthalmology, and Ophthalmology Retina. His published work addresses topics such as voretigene neparvovec gene therapy for inherited retinal disease, outcomes of pediatric endoscopic vitrectomy, retinopathy of prematurity staging, RPE65 mutation pathogenicity, and small-molecule approaches to retinal pigment epithelium regeneration. He is licensed to practice in California.
