Stephanie N Freshman

Stephanie N. Freshman is a trauma surgeon whose clinical and research work has centered on the management of serious traumatic injuries, including traumatic brain injury, hemorrhagic shock, and penetrating thoracic and abdominal trauma.

Her published research, appearing in The Journal of Trauma, addresses resuscitation strategies for combined shock and brain injury, including comparative studies of hypertonic saline and mannitol for acute head injury management, and investigations into the role of nuclear magnetic resonance as a measure of cerebral metabolism following hypertonic saline resuscitation. Additional work examines the utility of abdominal CT imaging in the secondary survey after blunt trauma, as well as the emergent use of two-dimensional echocardiography in evaluating penetrating precordial injuries. Across five peer-reviewed publications, her research reflects sustained engagement with both the physiological and diagnostic dimensions of acute trauma care.
