About

Janet I. Warren, D.S.W., is an Associate Professor of Clinical Psychiatric Medicine at the University of Virginia's Institute of Law, Psychiatry and Public Policy, where she has also served as Director. Her work centers on the intersection of mental health and the legal system, with a focus on forensic psychiatric evaluation and related policy issues.

Warren has contributed to research and professional discussion on competency to stand trial and mental state evaluations, and her work has been cited in federal and judicial contexts, including by the FBI and California court task force materials addressing mental health issues in legal proceedings. She has also engaged with topics in workplace violence risk assessment.

Her forensic practice involves the kinds of evaluations at the core of criminal and civil legal proceedings, including competency and sanity assessments. She holds a family nurse practitioner license in California and maintains a practice in Apple Valley, California.
